Mae – Fanni Maeposa
Student Midwife
I grew up watching my mother lovingly share moments with expecting and new mothers on the street while taking a walk, in the grocery store on on the bus on our way home. They all lit up when they saw her, their midwife, the person who was there throughout their pregnancy and birth. As I listened to my mom’s stories growing up I cherished all the emotions and passion she expressed when talking about her clients and her profession. I couldn’t fully understand the connection I had the pleasure of witnessing until it was my turn to have a baby and seek the support of midwives. This is when I met Christie, Korina and Laura and had the chance to experience the loving care of Jane during my pregnancy as well.
As I listened to my mom’s stories growing up I cherished all the emotions and passion she expressed when talking about her clients, and her profession.

After the safe arrival of my daughter, Ella, in 2019, my zeal to read books on topics of pregnancy and birth support and watch birth videos did not end. Soon a question was posed by a friend: have you considered becoming a midwife? It didn’t take long to consider it and after a phone call with Korina, I started taking steps towards becoming a midwifery apprentice. It was invited to attend a birth first in the summer of 2021 and was able to commit to being a midwifery student full time in 2022. I am grateful for being able to walk this journey with the In the Beginning midwives, and I am ever so grateful for the families opening their homes and welcome a student.
